We teamed up with a probiotics expert/lab to create a proprietary blend of cultures specifically for coconut. It’s the first culture blend of its kind and Anita’s is the ONLY company who has it. This makes Anita’s #1 in the market with the highest probiotic strain count in the non-dairy yogurt market!!
Hard to believe, but it tastes more like yogurt than before.
The new culture blend LOVES coconut and THRIVES in our new yogurt. As a result, the texture
is even firmer and, dare I say it, more luxurious.
Coconut milk has the best texture and flavor of any nondairy milk, especially when it is full fat. Coconut gives Anita’s the same consistency of whole milk greek yogurt, with health benefits galore.
Mango is Anita’s favorite flavor and pairs perfectly with our coconut yogurt. We use only ripe, organic mangoes, coconut blossom sugar and a touch of lemon to make our fruit base.
Blueberry is the country’s #1 selling yogurt flavor, and we love that blueberries are a native species. Our version is made with organic, American blueberries. We add chia seeds to thicken the fruit layer without additives, and for an added dose of fiber and protein.
IS IT PROBIOTIC?
Yes. Anita’s has 4 probiotic strains like L. acidophilus that aid in digestion. Each serving has more than 8 billion live cultures. The live cultures we use are vegan and allergen-free.
WHY IS THE FAT CONTENT HIGH?
Anita’s is made from pure, unprocessed coconut milk and is therefore full fat. Full fat is the most nutrient rich and easily digestible form of coconut milk.
WHERE’S THE PROTEIN?
Anita’s Yogurt contains a nominal amount of protein. In contrast, high protein yogurts* are made with animal products or additives. Anita’s is a plant-based product with no additives and contains only the nutrients occurring naturally in pure organic coconut milk. It is allergy-friendly and easily digestible. For added protein, combine Anita’s with hempseeds, pea protein or supplement of your choice.
*Although Greek-style yogurt is high in protein, up to 2/3 of the milk used to produce it is thrown away in the form of strained-off whey, or biological waste. This has begun to negatively impact our environment.
DOES IT CONTAIN SUGAR?
No (the 1g of sugar per serving is derived naturally from the coconut water). Because Anita’s is unsweetened, it is suitable for use in savory recipes like curry. Our fruit yogurts contain coconut sugar, derived from coconut palm blossoms.
THE TEXTURE OF MY YOGURT WAS DIFFERENT THAN MY LAST ONE. IS THIS NORMAL?
Anita’s is a small batch, handmade product made from non-homogenized milk. It contains no stabilizers or other additives, so variations may occur.
5 weeks from date of manufacture.
HOW LONG DOES IT KEEP ONCE IT’S OPENED?
The yogurt should last through the date stamped on the package if it is kept refrigerated.
CAN I FREEZE IT?
Freezing changes the texture and flavor of the yogurt and is not recommended.
IS IT RAW?
No. We pasteurize the milk. Cultures are added after pasteurization so that they are live and active.
IS THE FOIL SEAL RECYCLABLE?
Yes. Please rinse before disposal.
WHAT IF THE SEAL IS BROKEN WHEN I BUY IT?
Our packaging is tamper evident. If the seal is broken, do not consume. Return to the store for a replacement or refund.
WHY DID THE NUTRITION FACTS CHANGE?
Our serving size used to be 4 ounces. Starting in 2018, the FDA has mandated that serving size for all yogurt is 6 ounces. Nutritional facts will change in accordance with the new serving size. We decided to comply early on our new containers. More info is available here. But feel free to eat as much or as little Anita’s yogurt as you please!
CAN YOU SHIP YOGURT TO ME?
No. Anita’s Yogurt must be kept refrigerated and the cultures don’t like being shipped. Please visit one of our online retailers above.
WHERE CAN I BUY IT?
Anita’s Yogurt is available in NY, NJ, CT and online at these locations.
CAN I PURCHASE DIRECTLY FROM YOU?
No. We do not sell direct to consumers.
WHEN CAN I GET YOUR YOGURT IN MY AREA, OUTSIDE NEW YORK?
Anita’s Yogurt is available at some Whole Foods locations in the Northeast region, and other locations in Connecticut and New Jersey. We are not able to ship yogurt. More regional locations are planned for 2017. We will have distribution to some other areas of the country by late 2017, including Florida and California.
DO YOU SELL BULK YOGURT?
If you are a restaurant, café or caterer, please inquire about our bulk yogurt sizes for foodservice.
I WANT TO CARRY YOUR YOGURT IN MY GROCERY STORE.
We deliver locally to stores within New York City and limited regional locations. Please contact us for more information.
WHY IS IT MORE EXPENSIVE THAN OTHER NONDAIRY YOGURTS?
Why are other nondairy yogurts so cheap? The answer is on the ingredient panel. They water-down their product to make it cost-competitive with dairy. Then, to balance out that added water, they add starches, stabilizers, thickeners, sugar, preservatives and flavors. Some have up to 20 ingredients! We have only milk (coconut water, too, for flavor) and cultures. Those are the 2 most expensive ingredients in other yogurts.
IS YOUR COCONUT MILK SUSTAINABLE/FAIR-TRADE?
The milk we use is not certified sustainable or fair trade. The manufacturer has, however, undergone a third party audit to ensure workers are treated and paid fairly. They also use alternative means of production to cut costs, and in the process, have cut carbon emissions. For example, they transport coconuts using a system of canals, instead of using trucks.
WHERE DOES THE COCONUT MILK COME FROM?
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COCONUT MILK AND COCONUT WATER?
Coconut milk is made from the meat of mature coconuts, shredded and pressed with water. Coconut water comes from immature coconuts. They each have their own, separate benefits. For example, the yogurt has a high potassium content because of the coconut water.
HOW CAN I MAKE MY OWN COCONUT YOGURT?
Cultures for Health is a great place to start! They have dairy-free cultures and a wealth of helpful information.
CAN I BREASTFEED AND EAT YOUR YOGURT?
Anita consumed the yogurt all through her pregnancy and while breastfeeding her baby, but please consult your healthcare provider if this is a concern.
